Photography exhibit showcases JIRDC’s beauty and community
A brilliant autumn shot is one of the remarkable photos on display in the CoMMA lobby. Thirty-four images, taken by members of the photography club at the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center, will grace the lobby through March 6.
A stunning group of photos is on display in the lobby at the City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium (CoMMA) and the public will have an opportunity to meet the talent behind the cameras on Tuesday.
On March 4, from 5:30-7 p.m., twelve photographers will be honored at an open house at CoMMA. The J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center’s (JIRDC) resident photography club will display their photographs until March 6.
The gifted photographers will present 34 images highlighting the beautiful scenery of the JIRDC campus and the unique charm of the center’s community throughout the seasons.
According to Nina Cline, media coordinator in the Volunteer Services Department, the center has two photography clubs. Each group meets every other week.
“The club meets to explore the campus and snap some great photos, but we love to keep things exciting,” Cline said. “We have fun with model posing lessons and take studio portraits featuring our favorite things.
“We’ve gone on trips to interesting places, like the Morganton Police Station and Lake James State Park, to capture unique moments,” she added. “Plus, we enjoy playing games that help us learn more about our camera equipment.”
Cline said the clubs have exhibited their works before, but never at Morganton’s municipal auditorium.
“This is the first time our club is exhibiting at CoMMA,” Cline stated. “The JIRDC Creative Therapy Department previously held an art showing there several years ago. Our first exhibition took place at the Burke Arts Council.”
