Youth basketball regular season wraps up

The Burke County Recreation Department youth basketball league’s regular season came to a close Feb. 4 with action in four age groups at 13 different sites across the county. 

At Liberty Middle, the Salem age 11-12 boys topped Christ Classical, 26-20, in the only game pitting undefeated teams on the day as the Tigers won the Division II title. At Oak Hill, the Bulldogs’ No. 1 age 9-10 girls squad completed a perfect 12-0 season - the most wins of any county team this season - as they defeated East Burke. At Mountain View, Glen Alpine’s 7-8 girls won the Division II title as they topped the host Bobcats to cap a 7-0 season. Also at Mountain View, Oak Hill’s No. 1 boys age 7-8 squad defeated the hosts as the Bulldogs finished a 9-0 championship run in Division I. Other county teams to post undefeated regular seasons included the Valdese 7-8 boys (Div. II); Mountain View girls (Div. I); Oak Hill (Divs. I, III), Mull (Div. II) and Salem (Div. IV) all in 9-10 boys; the Oak Hill 11-12 boys (Div. I); the Oak Hill No. 1 13-15 boys; and the Ray Childers 11-12 girls.
