Third Draughn football player announces plans

Draughn High School senior John Robert Abernathy announced he will play football at Guilford College starting this fall in a signing ceremony held May 3 in Valdese. Abernathy served as Wildcats backup quarterback, throwing for one touchdown, and he averaged 32.1 yards on 21 punts this year with a long of 53 yards, pinning opponents inside the 20-yard-line on six occasions. He becomes the third senior off the Wildcats' record-setting 2022 squad to announce plans to play college football.
