Morganton’s three high schools got together for a Jan. 17 swim meet at the Morganton Aquatic Center and owned the pool, winning every boys and girls event on the night.
Draughn participated in rival East Burke’s Cavalier Last Chance Meet on Jan. 27 at the Valdese Aquatic Center, with the Wildcat boys winning the team portion of the event.
The local teams’ qualifiers enter NCHSAA West Regional championship meets this weekend. Freedom started the action in the 3A classification late Friday at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte before Draughn, Patton and NCSSM-Morganton swimmers take part in the 1A/2A portion of the event today at 6 p.m. at the same site.
State championship meets are next weekend at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, with the 1A/2A meet on Thursday, Feb. 9, and the 3A portion on Saturday, Feb. 11.
