Only one Morganton councilman has opposition in November vote

This week, The Paper profiles three candidates seeking a pair of seats on the Morganton City Council and Mayor Ronnie Thompson, who is running unopposed.

In the only contested race, Butch McSwain is running for reelection to the council seat representing District 1. He is being challenged by write-in candidate Dolores Huffman.

Chris Jernigan is running unopposed for reelection to the council seat representing District 2.

Thompson is also running for reelection as mayor.

HOW TO VOTE


Early voting began Thursday, Oct. 19 and continues on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 3. Early voting is also available Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7.

There are four locations available for early voting, including the Burke County Board of Elections office at 2128 S. Sterling St. in the Foothills Education Building in Morganton.

Other locations are: Burke Senior Citizens on North Green Street in Morganton; Rutherford College Town Hall on Malcolm Boulevard; and Hildebran Library and Senior Center in downtown Hildebran.
