The Table Rock Middle School baseball team hit the bag and rounded for home this regular season in as fine a fashion as is imaginable.
Table Rock ended the season on a six-game winning streak, highlighted by Monday’s 12-2 Foothills Athletic Conference home victory over previously undefeated East Burke.
The Falcons (10-2 FAC), which had hung a whopping 30 runs on April 20 in a win against East McDowell, then capped the regular season Wednesday with a 13-10 win over West McDowell to seal at least the No. 2 seed for next week’s conference tournament.Â
TR and West McDowell (9-3 FAC), the No. 3 seed, could face off again May 1 in Morganton in the semifinals.
TR was led in Monday’s five-inning win by Daegan Smith’s two home runs and five RBIs, while Alex Wall pitched the whole way and did not allow an earned run. The Falcons’ Puckett Hudson, Luke Miller, and Ryder Huffman added two hits each.
East Burke (10-1 FAC) still had a chance to clinch the regular-season title Thursday when it faced rival Heritage (6-5 FAC), which has earned the No. 4 seed.
An EB win would mean those teams would also match up again to open the FAC tournament in Icard on May 1. The FAC tournament championship game will be played May 2 at the higher seed.

SOFTBALL
Heritage (8-3 FAC) was tripped up by East McDowell (8-3 FAC) by a 2-1 score Monday in Valdese, sealing – you guessed it – a rematch on May 1 in the FAC tournament semifinals.Â
Yet to be determined is the site of that matchup, with a Heritage win Thursday over EB giving the Lady Eagles homefield advantage and a loss sending them to Marion to open the postseason.
Makenzie Powell kept the Lady Eagles in Monday’s loss by pitching the whole way, and Maddy Hudson led the team offensively with two hits including a double.
West McDowell (12-0 FAC) ended the regular season with a win over Table Rock on Wednesday and will be the No. 1 seed next week. TR, EB and Liberty were all within a half-game of one another entering the season’s final day, all in the hunt for the fourth and final tournament berth.
