Indoor track, wrestling postseason qualifiers announced

Six student-athletes from the Morganton and Valdese area have qualified for the NCHSAA indoor track state championships. 

The 3A portion of the event was held late Friday, Feb. 10, and the 1A/2A portion is Saturday, Feb. 11 beginning at 9 a.m. Both events were hosted by the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.

For Freedom in the 3A classification, senior Katie Deacon earned the top qualifying spot in the girls 1,000 meters (3:02.43) and is seeded second in the girls 3,200 meters (11:33.96). Junior Nathan Lindsay also qualified for state in the boys triple jump (No. 24 seed; 38’11¾”).

In the 1A/2A championship meet, Draughn will be represented by senior Lainey Proffitt (girls pole vault, No. 3 seed; 8’6”), freshman Anna Cape (girls pole vault, No. 11 seed; 7’6”) and senior Bella Williams (girls high jump, No. 13 seed; 4’8”), while Patton’s lone representative is junior Austin McGuire (boys 500 meters, 1:09.19).

Wrestling regionals

NCHSAA West Regional wrestling action got underway late Friday, Feb. 10, and concludes Saturday, Feb. 11, beginning at 9 a.m.

For Draughn in the 1A portion of the event at Mitchell High School, regional qualifiers included Andres Garcia Lopez (120 pounds; 10 seed), Mason Beck (132; 14 seed), Landon Clark (138; 12 seed), Isaac Smith (145; 16 seed), Colton Lukomski (160; 9 seed), Hampton Blackwell (170; 11 seed) and Rivka Vincent (220; 15 seed).

For Patton in the 2A portion of the event at West Lincoln High, regional qualifiers were Luke Parker (126; 5 seed), Claeb Clark (145; 14 seed), Burke Wilson (152; 8 seed), Anthony Ramirez (160; 6 seed), Nicholas Parlier (170; 15 seed), Kamden Stephens (182; 2 seed) and Brayan Romero (220; 15 seed).

And for Freedom, who’s in 3A action at Pisgah High, qualifiers were Jeulenea Khang (106; 4 seed), John Aguilar Ramirez (113; 11 seed), Trenton Walker (120; 15 seed), Jimmy Velasquez-Morales (132; 14 seed), Aiden Piscopo (138; 16 seed), Jacob Parsons (152; 15 seed), Kevin Agustin-Hernandez (195; 13 seed), Fredy Vicente-Perez (220; 5 seed) and Nathan Vue (285; 3 seed).
