In 1873, he came to Morganton and partnered with his brother I. I. Davis in the mercantile business. Fifteen years later, he opened a clothing and millinery store that was in business for 52 years and was later known as B.F. Davis and Son. Mr. Davis was active in the First United Methodist Church and many civic affairs.
